Agenda highlights

Trade ministers will focus on the upcoming WTO Ministerial Conference, recent developments in trade relations with China and the United States, as well as the impact the COVID-19 outbreak could have on supply chains and trade flows.

WTO Ministerial Conference

The Council will review the preparations for the 12th WTO Ministerial Conference, taking place on 8 to 11 June 2020 in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan. The WTO meeting is the organisation’s highest decision-making forum and will be attended by trade ministers and other senior officials from its 164 members.

Bilateral trade relations

Ministers will discuss recent developments in trade relations with China and the United States.

Over lunch, ministers will take stock of the state of play of ongoing bilateral trade negotiations with Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Chile, Mexico and Eastern and Southern AfricaTrade Commissioner, Phil Hogan will update ministers on the joint meeting of the European Commission and the African Union Commission, which took place on 27 February 2020.
